Hi, I’m Alex and I have over 10 years of experience in counseling. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2012 with a degree in Community, Family, and Addiction Studies. I then went on the the University of Denver, where I graduated with my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology in 2015.
I have worked in a variety of settings. I worked at a youth homeless shelter where I worked with young adults age 17 - 21 who faced struggles like substance abuse, single parents, teen pregnancy, disownment, and gender and sexual discrimination. I worked with children in the Texas foster care system providing trauma counseling for young children and on a specialized team that assisted with families in crisis during the reunification process. Throughout my career, I have worked with adults who faced struggles such as addiction, relocation, identity issues, relationship hardships, body image, grief and loss, divorce, pregnancy and postpartum difficulties, and other life events that we all face from time to time.
I have spent many years working with people from various cultures. I spent over 2 years abroad working in Europe and Southeast Asia teaching English and learning about how to see the world through a different lens. One of the key things I learned is that you are the expert in your own life. Additionally, I learned that people are resilient and by changing the responses we have to our environment, we can take back control and embark on the path that brings us the most peace, serenity, and prosperity.
